TipPALSAR Imagery

There are actually two different distribution formats for PALSAR Imagery -- one from ERSDAC, one from JAXA. Beware of which one you buy, because both types have their limitations; for example, JAXA Level 1.1 only come with orbital state vectors (no georeferencing), while ERSDAC doesn't offer a georeferenced quad polarized product! GDAL supports most of these formats (excepting ERSDAC Level 1.1 products)

OpenSAR still is lacking a roadmap. But here are some features to expect that are in the process of being implemented, to whet your appetite:
  • synthetic aperture radar imagery processing via the rage-doppler algorithm
  • target analysis using Polarimetric SAR and single channel SAR imagery, specifically for automated workflows
  • interactive tools for processing imagery (target selection and the likes)

  • enhancements to gdal to allow for better handling of raw SAR imagery (from PALSAR and RADARSAT-1 in particular).
If you have any raw SAR imagery, please fire it off my way if you're able to distribute it, especially if it is not from PALSAR or RADARSAT-1.

    TipReading LAS Format

If you're working with LiDAR data in LAS format, there is a new project called libLAS that might be of interest.
